We change lives through the power of our music. Founded in 1957, the Richmond Symphony is the largest performing arts organization in Central Virginia. The nonprofit includes an orchestra of more than 70 professional musicians, the 150-voice Richmond Symphony Chorus and more than 260 students in the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra programs. Each season, more than 200,000 members of the community enjoy concerts, radio broadcasts, and educational outreach programs. The Richmond Symphony's education and community work is made possible thanks to individual donors, corporate sponsors, and partial funding by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. Our ticketed series include: Altria Masterworks - Saturday nights and Sunday matinees at the Carpenter Theatre featuring orchestral classics and contemporary composers. Masterworks tickets are free for children under the age of 18. Symphony Pops Series - Held on Saturday nights, our Pops series features Rock, Broadway, Jazz, cartoons, Cirque collaborations. Metro Collection - Intimate, chamber orchestra Sunday afternoon concerts at Blackwell Auditorium at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland. Union Bank and Trust Lollipops Series - Four, hour-long concerts on Saturday mornings at 11am designed for children 5 and up. These concerts are now sensory friendly and general admission. Casual Fridays - These 60 minute concerts start at 6:30 and showcase works from the classical repertoire. Your host and conductor will provide a deeper look into the evening’s work. Rush Hour at Hardywood - These one-hour informal concerts feature fantastic orchestral and chamber music and discussion in the Hardywood tasting room. Grab a beer, hit the food trucks and enjoy a great concert at 6:30 on a Thursday. The Symphony’s educational programs seek to foster and develop diverse, informed audiences who value live symphonic performances and music education in our community; to help nurture and develop young musicians; and to advocate for music education and orchestral music. And our new Big Tent brings our full orchestra to neighborhoods and parks throughout the region for collaborations and shared experiences with our communities.
