Nestled amongst brand new apartments, condos and historic warehouses, Smith & Porter is a perfect evening dining spot for those in the Mill City neighborhood or for suburbanites craving a taste of the Minneapolis restaurant scene. Our team works tirelessly to ensure that you have a delightful and memorable experience with every visit. Positioned in the heart of the booming and historic Mill City District in downtown Minneapolis, we opened our doors in January 2017. If you are looking for an upscale twist on your tried-and-true favorite dishes and cocktails in a relaxed atmosphere, Smith & Porter is the restaurant for you. Located at 428 South 2nd Street, Smith & Porter is steps from the Stone Arch Bridge, Gold Medal Park, the only natural waterfall on the Mississippi River, and other local attractions, such as The Guthrie Theater, Mill City Farmer’s Market and Mill City Museum. Kirt Akerstrom is Executive Chef at Smith & Porter. Most recently, he was Executive Chef at Red Cow and previously the Corporate Executive Chef for the Alex’s/Bonfire brand. He has 27 years of experience in the hospitality industry, with 12 of those years focusing in Asian fusion cooking. Akerstrom was classically trained at Scottsdale Culinary Institute in Arizona. He feels that he has hit the jackpot in becoming a member of the Smith & Porter team and is excited for the new challenges and creative freedom that this position brings.
