The SPHS Dollars for Scholars is a community based initiative committed to facilitating access to higher education by providing scholarships to SPHS grads

General Info

In 2007, a group of South Portland parents and educators created the South Portland Project Scholarship committee. Committed to helping South Portland High School graduates overcome the financial obstacles they face as they pursue a college education, our goal is to provide a scholarship for post secondary education for every SPHS graduating senior who expresses a need. Since our inception, we have awarded sixty-two scholarships to members of the Classes of 2008, 2009 and 2010. As the needs of our students have increased, so have our fund raising and publicity efforts. Donations from residents, alumni, businesses, graduating classes and students themselves have helped us to meet these needs. We recently partnered with Dollars for Scholars. Affiliating with this national organization will ensure that the scholarships we award will not be deducted from a student’s financial aid package and, in many cases, will be matched by the college. This is a big plus for our graduates and their families.
