St. John’s International School or SJIS is a private-funded International School that has been initiated in collaboration with the La Salle Brothers Malaysia. The establishment of SJIS is in keeping with one of the priorities of the Lasallian Family in Malaysia to cater to the needs of young Malaysians and also to link the school with an organization that has an outstanding and reputable long-history of delivering excellent education not only in Malaysia but in 82 countries world-wide. It shall present a new environment for students from different cultures and backgrounds to be nurtured in excellence in education, sports, and extra-curricular activities. We realized that a holistic education is also one that promotes values of respect for all and accompanied by a sense of responsibility. Good discipline and strong student-faculty relationship shall be emphasized to create an atmosphere of mutual learning within the School. SJIS presents itself as a melting pot of students from different cultures and backgrounds. SJIS is in collaboration with De La Salle Brothers Malaysia, well known for their traditional hallmark of excellence in education St. John’s International School or SJIS is part of the excellent scholastic tradition that began with St. John’s Institution, Kuala Lumpur in 1904. The SJIS building is part of the heritage St. John’s Institution edifice of red and white brick ‘Grecian-Spanish’ architecture that was built in the 1930s. The school sits perched among the lush green surroundings of the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve against the backdrop of the KL Tower and the Petronas Twin Towers. Students and parents will recognise that education at SJIS has distinct characteristics. Members of SJIS are chosen for top academic qualification and methodic competency. Victoria Institution is a secondary school for boys and one of the oldest schools in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The school is widely known as V.I. and a student of Victoria Institution bears the name Victorian.VI achieves well in academic fields and sports at secondary school level in Malaysia. It was named a Cluster School of Excellence by the Malaysian Ministry of Education and considered one of the best non-residential schools in Malaysia. The school is named after Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, and was established by the British to commemorate her golden jubilee.HistoryIn the 1880s, Raffles Institution (RI) in Singapore flourished as an outstanding school. Some prominent community leaders, including the Sultan Abdul Samad, Kapitan Cina (Chinese Captain) of Kuala Lumpur, Yap Kwan Seng, towkay Loke Yew, and Thamboosamy Pillay proposed to set up a similar school modelled after RI to provide a premier English-medium education for boys in Kuala Lumpur. With the support of the British Resident of Selangor, the foundation stone of the Victoria Institution was laid in 1893. The school opened in July 1894. The name of the school commemorates the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria.
