Description

A meeting took place between Bharatiya Jain Sangathana and District Collector of Buldhana, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad & resident Deputy Collector; to discuss the process of making Buldhana district ‘Sujalam Sufalam’ i.e. make it drought-free and bring prosperity. It was decided that BJS will not take any remuneration from the Maharashtra Government or the District Administration for this work. However, the District Administration has taken up the responsibility of providing diesel for all the JCB and Pokland machines needed for this work. The district administration will extend its wholehearted cooperation to BJS in this endeavor. BJS and District Administration have accordingly signed a Memorandum of Understanding between them stating the above points. Work process: District administration and BJS will jointly create a work plan for each month for every taluka. Every taluka will be allotted 10 machines each at the start of the project. The administrative officials of the district, BJS officials and activists will jointly discuss with the farmers and the villagers, to determine the procedure for carrying away the silt and spreading it over their farms. Also, they should set priority criteria for the beneficiaries of the silt distribution work. Various awareness campaigns/programs will be organized in the entire district regarding water and Capacity Building programs for the youths and women. District Administrative Officials and BJS officials in the district will jointly supervise the work. They have to ensure all the paperwork/formalities are complied with and the work starts and finishes with in the scheduled time-frame. BJS has created a special mobile app for the keeping track of this work. It will provide a snapshot of all the work that is happening in real time which will help to keep tab on all the activities at site and a speedy redressal if necessary Cooperation between Government of Maharashtra and District administration: Maharashtra Government, District Administration, ZP Office and the officials overlooking the various structures are working day and night and are extending remarkable efforts for the purpose of giving relief to Buldhana district from drought. The results will clearly demonstrate that NGOs and district administrations can work together in unison and make the district free of drought. Benefits: What results will we see in a year? In a year, de-silting work amounting to 2 crore 50 lakh cubic meter will be accomplished. In a year, fifty thousand acres of land will turn fertile as a result of spreading the mineral rich de-silted soil over farm lands. In a year, water storage capacity will increase by 1 TMC (28 million liters). As a result of de-silting, water percolation will improve and the underground water levels will increase in this area. You too can join this movement BJS will not take any financial help from any individual or organization for the ‘Sujalam Sufalam’ –Make Maharashtra Drought-free movement. We also understand that when people see this kind of development work happening in a district, they would like to join in or contribute in some way to the program. If so, any individual or organisation can join in any small or big way as per their capacity to improve the socio-economic conditions of people in the district. In this regard BJS will play the role of a coordinator and present the following options for involving everyone in this program. How can NGO’s participate in this program? Organise programs involving ‘Shramdaan’: There is a lot of scope for organizing programs on ‘Shramdaan’ in all the talukas in Buldhana district. The significance of ‘Shramdaan’ is extraordinary in terms of people involvement and bonding with farmers in this program. This will help bridge the gap with the farmers and make them feel they are supported by the whole society. If people have contributed through ‘Shramdaan’ then the onus lies on everyone to take care to the water body. People tend to have a positive outlook even in adverse conditions. Through the ‘Shramdaan’ efforts of everyone, farmers will hold on to their faith and will not think of committing suicide. Awareness and transformation programs on Farm-Soil-Water-Yield and rural development: To identify and involve organisations in India who have experience in Farm-Soil-Water-Yield, rural development, self-employment, cleanliness, education, women empowerment etc. and implement these programs and campaigns for the betterment and development of Buldhana District. How can individuals get involved in the program? Individuals can contribute by bringing in JCB/Pokland machines: BJS has bought 134 JCB & Pokland machines in Buldhana for this project. The scope of doing work in this region is enormous; therefore there is a need of more machines to complete the work at a better pace. So instead of donating money to BJS, you can make JCB and/or Pokland machine/s available by renting it out for a month or a year without diesel, for your taluka or anywhere in the district by partnering with BJS. A list of people or organisations, who contribute in such a manner, will be displayed on a board in the BJS office i.e. at Gandhi Bhavan in Buldhana. Individuals can contribute by bringing in JCB/Pokland machines: The 21st century belongs to the people with vision coupled with imagination. This project provides a golden platform if you have any great idea to implement or introduce a project in Buldhana related to Farm-Soil-Water-Yield technical learning, rural development, self-employment, cleanliness, education, women empowerment etc. BJS will collect and collate all such ideas with the help of a mobile app till 30th May. We will appoint a panel with relevant experience and expertise to check the feasibility of these ideas and select 5 best ideas/proposals from the lot. They will submit these proposals to the Government of Maharashtra and take the necessary action. These individuals will be awarded & recognized and will be given opportunities to implement their ideas. Note: BJS is a non-government & non- political volunteering organization. It is not aligned with any political party and is only dedicated to working for the betterment of society. While working on sensitive issues like educational rehabilitation of children affected by farmer suicide and drought relief, we have to cross boundaries of political differences, religion, caste, creed, sex etc. and work towards a common goal. We hope this common cause of drought-relief unites everyone and make this project a great success. To select a drought-affected district in Maharashtra for drought relief work. With the aid of 150 JCB / Pokland machines, and by signing an agreement with the District Administration; to undertake the developmental work in the catchment areas for making the entire district drought-free. Increase the water storage capacity in the entire district. Further, with the participation of villagers in every taluka, spread the de-silted soil on maximum farmlands to make the land fertile. To involve Government of Maharashtra, District Administration, various NGOs, Business Conglomerates, Public Representatives and villagers in this campaign. Impart technical learning’s and conduct various action programs with demonstrations about farms, soil & water, yield and implement rural development programs. With the successful completion of this one-year pilot, this model can be thus implemented and scaled up in any other district to make it drought free.
