The Kidney Project is brings together scientists, engineers, and clinicians to create a surgically implantable bioartifical kidney. The project is directed by Drs. Shuvo Roy, PhD, and William Fissell, MD, at UC San Francisco and Vanderbilt University, respectively. To enable end stage renal disease patients to live longer, healthier lives free from dialysis.

For the 2 million patients worldwide with end stage renal disease (ESRD), whose kidneys are no longer able to function and sustain life, The Kidney Project offers new hope beyond the short-term solution of dialysis and the longer-term solution of kidney transplantation.
