Three Oaks is currently looking for pioneer families to join us as we prepare to launch in the fall of 2015. We are a blended-model (classroom and home school) committed to creating a hybrid of the best of several educational models, from classical to STEM to conventional schools. Three Oaks seeks to nurture a love of learning in our students through academic rigor and while recognizing the unique needs and individual differences of each student. Based on Jesus' teaching to love God and our neighbors, Three Oaks is founded on Christian principles of welcoming all those who wish to be part of our school. Our Board Currently is comprised of: April Karli -- A six year veteran of the blended school model, April has been successfully co-teaching her two girls since her oldest was in first grade. She works part-time as a freelance writer and blogger. April’s work includes Sunday School curriculum for preschoolers, magazine articles, and newsletters. She believes kids can learn things - from math to grammar to theology - in fun and innovative ways. April passionately believes chips & salsa should be its own food group. Bethany Smith -- Before having children, Bethany worked in corporate human resources until she decided to ditch the Fortune 500 for a career in education. She then taught at an inner city elementary school in Tennessee where her students were what she calls “my babies.” Bethany has a Master’s degree in curriculum development with an emphasis in math education. She is passionate about social issues, teaching kids the value of service. Bethany also places a high value on essential oils, healthy food, and soccer. She and her husband have four kids, and are in the process of adding two more children from Ethiopia. Elizabeth Swanson -- Elizabeth holds a Ph.D. in Learning Disabilities & Behavioral Disorders and works as an assistant professor in the Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk at the University of Texas at Austin. She believes in creating educational environments where kids are free to thrive and succeed despite learning disabilities or differences. Elizabeth homeschools her two sons. When she's not working or teaching her boys, Elizabeth enjoys watching movies and live music with her husband. Jamie Wallace -- Jamie is an energetic entrepreneur, networker, and mom to three kids. She successfully started her own business in 2010, and runs it while homeschooling her three kids. Jamie has three years of experience in a University Model School co-teaching her kids, including her middle son who has Asperger’s Syndrome. Jamie’s house is full of life, energy, and rescue animals! In her free time, Jamie can be found in a boat on the lake soaking up the Texas sunshine!
