Private, coeducational college in Bristol, Va. (sister city of Bristol, Tenn.). VI offers bachelor’s degrees in more than 40 academic concentrations including nationally recognized programs in photography and equine studies.

General Info

Learning and leadership opportunities extend beyond the classroom with professional internships, undergraduate research, educational travel and workshops, all which add to the academic experience. VI’s stellar program in photography and digital imaging provides students with experiential learning through professional contacts and regional affiliations. VI photography students have been official photographers at Bristol’s famous “Rhythm and Roots Reunion” and at the Bristol Motor Speedway races. With one of the largest Equine Studies programs in the U.S., Virginia Intermont is a powerhouse in equestrian competition. VI equestrian teams benefit from a 120-acre riding center and have won 15 national championship titles in intercollegiate riding since 2001. In addition to equestrian sports, VI fields nine athletic teams, which compete in National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). Men's teams compete in golf, basketball, baseball and soccer; women's sports include softball, basketball, soccer and volleyball, and the College recently added a co-ed cycling team. Students are also involved in a variety of campus organizations and intramural sports including flag football, bowling and paintball.
