The Waikiki Steel Guitar Festival, also known as the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Festival at Waikiki Beach Walk, is presented by Outrigger Enterprises Group and Ke Kula Mele Hawaii School of Hawaiian Music in its ongoing efforts to highlight and preserve the island culture and bring together and showcase legendary steel guitarists and up-coming students in celebration of the Hawaiian Steel Guitar. This annual event is held at the Waikiki Beach Walk plaza stage and is free and open to the public. The festival highlights and preserves the island culture by bringing together and showcasing legendary steel guitarists and up-coming steel guitar students in celebration of the Hawaiian Steel Guitar. The 4th Annual Waikiki Steel Guitar Festival was held on July 20, 2013, and featured renowned Hawaiian steel guitarist, music teacher and director of Ke Kula Mele Hawaii Alan Akaka, together with fellow steel guitarist masters Greg Sardinha, Casey Olsen, Bobby Ingano and Jeff Au Hoy. Joining these legends were Timi Abrigo and the Abrigo `Ohana and students from Kumu Akaka’s Ke Kula Mele Hawaii representing the next generation of steel guitarists.
