College Preparedness Just Got Better! Our Model: Dual Enrollment Focus West Sacramento Early College Prep is undergoing an exciting evolution over the 2016/17 school year. We are taking exciting steps to evolve from an "early college" prep middle/high school to a "middle college high school" structure. Beginning with the 2016/17 school year, West Sac Prep students who are 16 and older will be dual enrolled in college courses while enrolled in high school. Our program is designed to facilitate students graduating high school transferable college credits while earning a high school diploma. The instructional model in the high school program is a balance between hands-on learning projects, individual study, team projects and direct instruction. The high school program supports high student achievement by creating as many meaningful learning opportunities as possible to increase engagement and retention of knowledge. Beginning this school year, we will add multiple support structures such as tutoring, AVID and a course schedule that allows flexibility for study time and college courses. The school has a technology-rich atmosphere with a focus on students acquiring and using 21st century skills. West Sac Prep provides a high ratio of adults to students. All of these features enhance academic engagement and achievement, and are essential program design elements of the school and reflect the school’s beliefs about how learning best occurs.
