By entering the Greek community you will be provided with numerous opportunities and become acquainted with a wide variety of individuals. Within your own sorority, and Greek Life as a whole, you will find life lasting friendships, leadership opportunities, networking, laughter and memories. Through engagement in sorority life, young women are enabled to grow and develop both mentally and emotionally. Greek Life at Laurier promotes intellectual developement, encourages philantrophic endeavours, and also helps to foster extraordinary interpersonal skills. Alpha Omega is a local sorority. This means that we enjoy the flexibility of being self-governed. Alpha Omega was founded in 1993 at Wilfrid Laurier University, in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Shortly after it's conception, Alpha Omega's members discussed the benefits of a local sorority versus those of an international one. It was decided, and has been maintained, that being local gives our sorority the freedom to develop in a manner consistent with the vision of our founders. Being local, Alpha Omega is able to adapt to consist with Wilfrid Laurier University's dynamic campus. Alpha Omega Sorority recognizes the importance of philanthropic efforts throughout both the Laurier community, and within the larger community of Waterloo Region. Being a local sorority we take great pride in supporting the community in which we were founded. Our two established philanthropies are Anselma House and the endangered sea manatee foundation. However, our charitable efforts are not limited to these two organizations alone. Alpha Omega sisters also regularly participate in food and clothing drives for the Waterloo Region. Yearly, our sisters are involved in blood donor clinics, The Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life, CIBC's Run for the Cure, and much more. In addition, on an individual basis, our sisters have volunteered in hospitals and with organizations such as Reaching Our Outdoor Friends (R.O.O.F).
