Description

About We are the world leaders in the field of disability martial arts and we are rapidly growing participation for disabled and disadvantaged people. We train coaches to teach disabled people and train disability experts to teach martial arts. We are Founder Members of the international governing body for disability martial arts The Ikkaido Federation. Our board of advisors consist of two Sports Scientists, one of whom is a disability specialist, a Special School Educationalist, the parents of disabled children, the and a disability workshop tutor from Sportscoach UK. We cater to the needs of disabled people. With us, karate Instructors will find assistance and resources for adapting their coaching. We are the experts in England on disability and inclusive coaching in martial arts Organisation Overview According to the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS), there are eleven million disabled people in the UK. The Olympics and Paralympics have raised awareness of just how physically active disabled people can be. According to the EFDS post Olympic Games Report 8 out of 10 disabled people were considering playing more sport. Despite this, less than 20% of disabled people are actually taking part in sport and the poll commissioned by the Sport and Recreation Alliance in late 2012 showed that 89% of sports clubs showed no change in the number of people with disabilities joining them, in the months following the Olympics. We were founded in November 2012 in an effort to bring the benefits of martial arts to people with disabilities. Description This Facebook page will be where our members and coaches can share stories of success and triumph to inspire others. We intend to create national programme of clubs that will accept students with disabilities. We are willing to assist any instructor that needs help or wants to refine or add an adaptive program to their curriculum. General information New members are welcomed and encouraged! We are constantly connecting with small organizations all over the world that are serving the needs of disabled people. We would like to be able to refer students to these organizations for continued support in their karate training. We encourage people to post submissions for website articles. Ikkaido creates resources for athletes and coaches to gather and share ideas, curriculum and other adaptive training information while promoting disability inclusion and helping to break down the stereotypes associated with disabled people through martial arts training. We seek to change people's lives and to change the perceptions of what people are capable of
