The San Bernardino Valley Chapter of The Links, Incorporated The Links, Incorporated is an exclusive non-profit organization based upon the ideals of combining friendship and community service. The organization was founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on November 9, 1946, from a group of ladies known as the Philadelphia Club to focus on civic, cultural, and educational endeavors. The organization was formally incorporated five years later, in 1951. The Links, Incorporated consists primarily of professional African-American women. Membership is extended to candidates nominated and approved by currently active Links members. In addition, membership is also extended to daughters of active Link members, who are called "Heir-O-Links. Currently, the Links, Incorporated, has over 12,000 members, and 276 chapters nationally and one chapter in the Bahamas. The Links, Incorporated celebrated their sixtieth anniversary on November 9, 2006. In honor of the achievement, commemorative medals were issued to celebrate the organization's achievements.

Description

History of The Links, Incorporated and The San Bernardino Valley Chapter The Links, Incorporated is an international, non-profit corporation, established in 1946 in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Presently, the membership consists of 12,000 professional women of color in 274 chapters located in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. The San Bernardino Valley Chapter was charted on May 4, 1979. The co-founders of the chapter were Mrs. Betty Dean Anderson and Mrs.Princie Smith. The first formed an interest group in 1977 consisting of nineteen service-minded women, looking for ways to improve the communities of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. For more than 35 years, the members of the San Bernardino Valley Chapter of the Links, Incorporated have served the surrounding cities by offering resources to empower adults and children both nationally and internationally, providing tutoring and mentoring programs for our youth, encouraging civic involvement, promoting cultural enrichment, and offering free health and wellness workshops to the public. It is through continued commitment that the members of the San Bernardino Valley Chapter will seek to improve our communities through friendship and service.
