Description

The Show, A Nonprofit cooperative artspace promoting creative diversity and inclusion. Who we are. The Show is a nonprofit retail store, dedicated to exhibiting works by artists from all walks of life, with a focus on artists with disabilities. The Show was formed by Winna Bernard, an artist, social worker, and dedicated Saint’s fan. After many years as a season ticket holder, Winna has grown very close to the Saint’s and shares their motto that “Fun is good!”. The Show values the community spirit that the Saint’s have cultivated, and will work to strengthen the bonds between artists, sports fans, and the St. Paul community. The name: "The Show” has two meanings. One meaning is that of a baseball player making it to the major league, going to "The Show". The second meaning is, having art work in a "Show". The name itself promotes a connection between art fans and baseball fans. Our Mission: The mission of The Show is to foster a dialogue about the context of art creation, promote diversity, and create an environment where all artists are welcome regardless of training and background. Artists with disabilities rarely get a chance to promote and sell their work in the mainstream art world. If they are featured in a public gallery or shop it is usually brief and not during peak times. It has become very discouraging see these great pieces of art work sitting in store rooms for few to see or buy. The Show will be a unique retail space, displaying and selling artwork and offering a level of exposure unprecendented for all artists, let alone artist with disabilities. In addition,The Show will offer an online service that will help artists promote themselves and sell their work on the internet. This service will be offered to artists as a possible new avenue to sell their work. This service will be called “Andy’s Market” in memory of Andy Nelson, the resident artist of the Saint Paul Saints. Andy was known as the “muse” of the Saints and his work is found throughout many of the ballparks owned by the Goldklang Group. The Show aspires to become an organic community gathering space where people can come together to hold meetings, host events, and fundraise. With a community space near the new ballpark, and a growing partnership between the Saint’s and the Lowertown artists, Lowertown is sure to continue to be a vibrant arts and entertainment district that will dazzle the tourist and local resident alike.
